Customer Experience

 

 

The IT infrastructure of a company is comprised from the systems of various complexities: CRM, file storage, Microsoft Exchange e-mail and collaboration system, a document management system and the enterprise resource management system (ERP). There are approximately 160 employees in the company and 3 administrators to support IT. ERP and CRM are most critical systems for the business.
 

IT administrators have different specializations but a significant part of their time is occupied by routine tasks, such as, creating and deleting mail-boxes, providing Access rights to employees, small changes in configuration of, e.g., servers, etc. IT manager, together with administrators, also participates in planning and ordering the equipment. 
 

Due to the increased amount of data IT administrators need to dedicate more time for the main IT systems and therefore the quality of other IT services decreases. IT manager is considering employing one more administrator to support the systems but he has no budget assigned.
 

The company was proposed to start using dynamic IT services together with all the benefits those services provide. In order to dedicate more time for the critical systems and optimize the others it has been decided to delegate the development and support of Microsoft Exchange server and file storage to the external vendor. This decision enabled the company to control the support and security of critical systems and procure less critical systems as a service.
 

The scope of the project included installation of optical fiber link between the company and Blue Bridge data center, replacement and configuration of 5 different capacity servers and support of the abovementioned systems. All the systems were provided with the licenses and possibility to change the quantity of licenses monthly. A monthly fee for these services is approximately 10300 Litas.

 

 

 

Technical solution

 

 

The architectural solution for providing our dynamic IT services is exclusive in how high availability features are implemented, how backup and restore solution is implemented and how this solution is provisioned.


Virtual servers are provided using VmWare virtualization platform. In case of physical server failure, virtual machines dedicated for the services, will be automatically moved to another functioning hardware in just few minutes. Server back-up copies are made daily and stored for three days. The solution is designed to copy “live” data (SQL DB, opened files, etc.) without any impact to their integrity and can backup whole virtual machine along with the data. Therefore recovery from the back-up can be performed significantly faster.
